No. 7 Division
No. 7 Division area is Toowoomba, Roma, Charleville and Goondiwindi.
No. 7 Divisional Councillor – Kevin Voll
Kev is the representative for Division 7, which incorporates the depots of Toowoomba, Roma, Charleville and Goondiwindi. Kev has been an active union delegate for more than 20 years, after first taking on a delegate role during his four years in Cloncurry.
With a regional division, Kev is very much aware of the needs of members and workers outside of Brisbane’s metropolitan area. Kev has been a passionate advocate for better services to members in regional Queensland.
Kev is a vocal advocate for funding for rural and regional freight lines. Having spent much of his career in seasonal and regional locations, Kev understands the importance of well funded and resourced rail services to regional towns.
Kev also understands well the difficulties associated with raising a young family in the job. Kev’s driving history is a clear example of the challenges faced by Traincrew, and the need for a strong Traincrew union to fight for conditions. Kev joined QR in November of 1972 as a cleaner in Toowoomba. After passing the Fireman’s Exam he spent time relieving in Inglewood, Wallangarra and Dalby. Kev was then sent to Mackay to relieve during the sugar season. Kev took classification as a Fireman at Charleville, and was then transferred to Inglewood and back to Toowoomba.
After passing the Driver’s Exam Kev divided his time between Inglewood and Toowoomba. I 1982 Kev took classification as a Locomotive Driver to Cloncurry, where he spent four years. In 1986, Kev accepted a transfer to Collinsville. During this time, a decision was taken to close Collinsville depot, and Kev and his work mates were declared surplus to requirements. This prompted a move to Cairns, where Kev stayed until 1993 when he took a transfer back to Toowoomba.
You can contact Kev Voll on 0407 818 905.
