No. 5 Division area is Brisbane Metropolitan area and Bundaberg.

No. 5 Divisional Councillor – Darryl Torrens

Darryl Torrens Darryl Torrens was first elected to the Divisional Council in 2002.  Darryl represents the interests of Traincrew employed in QR’s Citytrain depots.  This area of responsibility extends from Caboolture to Robina and out to Ipswich.

Darryl has particular interest in health and safety matters, and has been the driving force behind substantial improvements in workplace safety.  In this role Darryl has also won improvements to the rostering of crews, including longer breaks and meal times to manage fatigue and stress in the workplace.

Darryl is one of the Union’s steam experts.  Darryl qualified on steam engines in 2000, and is one of the few drivers still qualified to operate the old steamers.  

Darryl is a fully qualified Locomotive Driver Class II, employed at QR’s Mayne depot.  Darryl commenced his career in 1980 as an Engine Cleaner.  He progressed to Fireman in 1982 and was classed as a Locomotive Driver in 1993.
