No. 4 Divisional Councillor – Keryn Staib
Keryn Staib is one of the Union’s longest serving delegates, with a representative history that stretches back more than 20 years. Keryn was one of the A.F.U.L.E.’s lead delegates in the 1995/6 negotiation of the first Traincrew Industrial Agreement – a landmark document that fundamentally changed Traincrew’s working conditions for the better.
Keryn is a vocal advocate for greater recognition for freight Traincrew, whose working conditions still include many hours away from home at camps and quarters. As a father of three, Keryn understands the pressures that life in Traincrewing places on families. Keryn works hard to ensure that improvements to conditions and the work and life balance of freight Traincrew remain a priority for the Union.
Keryn is driven by an appreciation of the struggle of those who have gone before us. His dedication to the Union over many years stems from a respect for the workmates who fought hard for our current conditions though many strikes and stoppages.
Keryn commenced his career a Fireman in Longreach in 1974. He spent time in Bundaberg and Maryborough, before being classed as a Locomotive Driver to Cloncurry. Keryn then returned to Maryborough, where he is currently a Locomotive Driver Class II.
You can contact Keryn Staib on 0407 812 062.
