PAYROLL ERROR

20 January 2010

Dear Traincrew,

The AFULE received phone calls from concerned members advising that they received a letter from QR advising that they owed money. When this was queried, members were advised that they were rostered too many BLP’s and QR was reclaiming the money that was paid for working on a BLP.

In accordance with Clause 68 of the QR Passenger Pty Ltd Traincrew Union Collective Workplace Agreement 2009, traincrew are paid at 175% of the full flat rate for the hours that they worked on the BLP as a standalone payment at the end of the fortnight in which the hours are worked.

As you are well aware, the master diagram (which has all the BLP’s rostered) is drafted and posted for traincrew well in advance. An employee knows what their BLP’s are well in advance and if they are called and asked to work on a BLP, they do so as they know they are going to get the standalone payment.

The AFULE’s position is that QR cannot advertise an employees’ BLP’s, ask them to work their day off and then afterwards take the money off them. If there is an error in the amount of BLP’s that an employee has been allocated, this can be adjusted in the next work cycle e.g. have one less BLP in the next work cycle.

The AFULE raised this with QR and the problem has now been rectified.

Affected employees do not have to pay the money back. Further, those employees who have already started making payments will have the money reimbursed.

If you have any queries in relation to this matter, please don’t hesitate to contact the State Office on (07) 3257 1151 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Yours fraternally
