SHIFT LENGTHS FOR DOO CONFIGURATION

19 January 2010

Dear Traincrew,

The AFULE received complaints from members advising that local management were informing them that DOO configuration is 9 hours relief and then spare travel thereafter. This misinformed advice resulted in many members breaching their limitation of hours for DOO configuration.

The AFULE advised members that DOO configuration is 9 hours sign on to sign off – inclusive of spare travel. The AFULE commenced the dispute resolution process in accordance with Clause 39 of the QR Limited Traincrew Union Collective Workplace Agreement 2009 (the “Agreement”).

In accordance with Step 4 of Clause 39 of the Agreement, the AFULE lodged an application of dispute in Fair Work Australia on 8 January 2010.

The AFULE attended a conciliation conference before Fair Work Australia on Thursday 14 December 2010.

The outcome was the following:

  • QR Limited would, in conjunction with the unions, develop a Local Instruction to be provided to all management clearly outlining that the limitation of hours for DOO configuration is 9 hours sign on to sign off – inclusive of spare travel.
  • QR Limited would, in conjunction with the unions, develop a Limitation of Hours Breaches Process as per Clause 56.1 of the Agreement.

What’s next?

The AFULE have provided feedback to QR on the Local Instruction. Further, the AFULE have drafted a Limitation of Hours Breaches Process and provided to QR to review. Once the Local Instruction and Limitation of Hours Breaches Process are finalised, the AFULE will provide to local representatives to distribute to the membership.

If you have any queries in relation to this matter, please don’t hesitate to contact the State Office on (07) 3257 1151 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Yours fraternally
