Queensland Not for Sale - Update - Stop the Press!!!.
CIRCULAR: 61-09 Ref: Queensland Not For Sale - Update - Stop the Press!!!
16 October 2009
Dear Traincrew
This morning the Treasurer Andrew Fraser, who has been participating in the negotiations of the assets sale went on the morning ABC talk back show.
When questioned on the progress of the negotiations he stated that the unions were holding discussions to facilitate the assets sales and also that the unions were discussing employee entitlements.
These comments are false. I have attended every minute of the negotiations and at no stage haves there been discussions by the unions on the facilitation of the sale or discussions on employee entitlements.
It is disappointing that Andrew Fraser would make these inflammatory comments at this vital stage of the negotiations.
As a result of these comments, the AFULE and ETU held a rally outside the Parliamentary Executive building calling for a retraction from the Treasurer of his comments.
The AFULE entered into the negotiations in good faith that an outcome could be achieved, but it seems that the Government is keen to derail the process.
I will be talking with the AFULE Divisional Council over the weekend to gauge whether the AFULE should continue in this farce of so-called negotiations with the Government.
This is for your information.
Yours fraternally
GREG SMITH
STATE SECRETARY
