The 2300 class was created when Queensland rail decided to rebuild some of the 1550 and 2400 class locomotives. When this retrofit is completed there should be sixty locomotives in this class. These locomotives will be primarily used for freight movements on the main line, as there are problems associated with the turbo charger on these units when used for yard shunts.
