Andrew Caris has elected to the Role of Division One Councillor, as of 1 January 2020. Prior to being promoted to Councillor Andrew was been filling the role of Proxy Councillor, to Pat Lord.  Division One depots include Cloncurry, Hughenden, Mackay, Mt Isa, Stuart and Townsville. 

Andrew is a locomotive driver attached to the Bulk North East at the Stuart Depot. He commenced his railway career as a trainee driver at the Callemondah depot in 2011 before transferring from the Coal to the Bulk side Aurizon's business model. Since his arrival in Townsville, Andrew has held a committee position within the Stuart Sub Branch and advocating for the rights of members and representing members interests throughout disciplinary investigations, industrial matters & general conflicts with management.

Andrew is a firm believer in 'power to the people' and has a long Trade Union/Employee Association history which commenced in 1984 as a member of the then Brisbane College of Advance Education Student Union, which was responsible for the representation of the student body across the four BCAE campuses.

from 1987-2011, Andrew held various official elected positions within Sub Branches of the Queensland Police Union of Employees, vigorously defending the rights of members against hostile management and actively participating in Enterprise Bargaining negotiations for better working conditions & wages for over 10,000 members.

Andrew is extremely passionate about defending AFULE members industrial rights and ensuring AFULE members receive both professional courtesy and procedural fairness in all interactions with Rail Industry Management. He is also committed to educating our membership to a better understanding of EBA's and their implications in the workplace.
